OCTOBER / NOVEMBER 07

Welcome everyone to the first of many newsletters for Saltwater Charters WA.

As you may well know we are a new business to the charter scene in Perth , so we are keen to impress everyone with our high standards of service and customer care. With the added bonus of spending a day out on the Interceptor, which we think is a very comfortable, safe and well kept boat ,suited to the local waters of Perth.

The first couple of charters in October started off with a bang, scoring a great mixed bag of species like Pinkies, Black arse, Queenies and some very nice Dhuies coming from 40 to 60 mtrs of water out from Hillarys. The Pinkies are starting to gather in the 90’s and 110 mtrs and November is looking to be a good month to be out there.

Brad Brown who works at Bluewater Tackle Mindarie, had a fantastic weekends fishing with his son early in October, scoring a couple of Dhuies and Pinkies and earning himself the first ever “FISH OF THE DAY” trophy and bragging rights till the next time!

We still have a couple of weekends available in November and plenty of weekday spots so call or email to book. December is fast filling up with Sambo Jigging Days and some days we need 5 or six more people to fill the days. This summer is going to be huge for the Sambos with Western Angler booking us out on the 16/12 with cricketing great Kim Hughes and fishing legend Ian Stagles joining some lucky punters for a great day out. There are still a few spots left for this day.

Lets hope these south westers drop off soon and we can get into the summer pattern. October has been a mixed month weatherwise, with weekends being rough and weekdays the good days to be out there. So take a look at Seabreeze.com.au and pick the good weather to plan your day ahead. You are still more than welcome to make a booking at short notice.

Last week the guys from L and A Electrics came aboard on a borderline day weatherwise but had a great day out with Jeffro as the new skipper catching some big pinkies in the 40’s a few mile north of Rotto. The fish are always hungry after winter, especially after a big front and you don’t have to fish the deep water to get the big ones.

I would like to thank everyone who has helped me to get Saltwater Charters WA up and running and who have helped me realise a dream of starting up this business. A special mention must go to my dad , Ian Warne, who has the big job of web designer and head overseer of deck operations [fishing whenever he wants!].

A big thank you also to the guys at Bluewater Tackle Mindarie who have given me such a big wrap to all interested customers and for supplying most of my gear and technical advice for tackle. What a great bunch of guys! Let them take care of your tackle and jig needs.

Russell from “Got Ya Tackle” in Balcatta has also put a lot of faith into this new charter business and once again for any advice pop in and say g’day to him.

That’s it for this month, so if you are into friendly people on a fantastic boat with limited numbers of people fishing at once, not to mention Liv’s famous breakfast and lunch platter, give us a go. We will be sure to see you again.

Good Fishing,

Craig and Olivia Warne

DECEMBER 07 NEWSLETTER

A big Hi to all,

sorry about the Dec newsletter being a bit late but this time of the year has been absolutely crazy and there is no light at the end of the tunnel until well into the new year! It is great to have such a busy month with a new business and hopefully everyone who has been out with us will be back to catch some more fish and enjoy Liv's fabulous cooking.
Fishing has been a little patchy these last few days but with the last quarter coming up and over the New moon catches should pick up again. The best depths have been in the 40's and I have some new ground to check out further north up to Moore River in these depths so very keen to get up there. All I need is for you guys to give me a call! I took a nice easy group of 10 to the north at the start of the month and scored some nice pinkies, dhufish and Breaksea in 38 metres of water. You can really feel the fish bite hard in the shallows and I love seeing the smile on the faces of the novice angler who has just caught the biggest fish of their life. You even get the photo to prove it before you get off the boat. Not to mention the trophy.
Sambo jigging is starting off this week and we have a group from Sydney coming over for three days to test the limits of these mighty fish. All up we have 8 Sambo days so if you would like to try this jigging out call me now! From all accounts the Sambo's are just starting to get hungry and its shaping up to be a long steady season but not as intense as last year. It's a shame that the sharks are on the Patches out from Hillary's but maybe there is someone out there who wants to catch them? If this is you give me a call. It will be catch and release also.

We are starting to get some regulars now and the more times you come out the cheaper it gets so tell everyone about us and we will get the fishing club started with monthly prizes with selected target species. The Biggest Dhuie from now till April will earn a free trip to the Abrolhos Islands for 2 people valued at over $2000. I will have some scales onboard so you can release it after if you wish! There is no entry fee so just come out once to be in the running to win. Decembers target specie is King George Whiting so the biggest KG gets a free day out with a friend from Hillary's.
Well that just about wraps up December so if you are into smaller groups of people on a great, clean, comfortable boat with friendly, personable crew. Not to mention the awesome food, give me a call and we will tee you up for a great days fishing.

Good Fishing,

welcome to Januarys Newsletter,

a bit late again but we have been very busy catching everyone fish this last month that time just flys by. Thanks to everyone for giving us a go as the new kids on the block and we have seen a lot of happy people getting off the boat with that tired but content look on their faces!
The Rottnest days have been a big winner also especially with the company annual events as we can shelter in a nice bay and have a swim, fish, bbq while the sea breeze comes in. It really is an excellent day out and we can do the fish/ rotto combo where we fish till 10 am then go in for a bbq for lunch and the trip home is all down hill with the sea behind us.
Fishing wise has been pretty good with some nice dhufish, King george whiting, pink snapper and breaksea cod with the odd big queen snapper being pulled in all depths of water. January is a great month to fish as all the fish are still hungry and apart from the odd windy day not much swell to rough things up.
The Sambo jigging is still going really strong at the moment with the guys from Ranger Camping in Canningvale helping us out big time with jigs and expert advice. All the guys from Ranger Camping came out on the 9th for a day sambo jigging with great success landing 40 odd sambo's up to 40 kilo with the surprise package being 2 mulloway caught on jigs also. From what I hear the sambo's are still going to hang around for another 2 months so get in there for the fishing experience of your life. Check out some footage of this coming out soon. We can also break up the day to catch some pinkies to take home with you. Book now or you will miss out.
The Abrolhos Island season is coming upon us and I'm getting some bookings already so please don't hesitate to call me on 0427 280770 if you need to know anything. These 3/4 day trips are truly the ultimate experience and if you only go fishing once a year then grab some mates together and prepare for a lot of fishing for pelagic's as well as the usual bottom fish not to mention the surfing, snorkeling and beach walking on offer. This may be the last year of unrestricted access and full bag limits for fish so don't miss out. We also take individual bookings for $300 a day fully catered for so you don't have to find 10 mates to go with.
All up everything is going great with the boat and we have the regular crew looking after you with the only hiccup being me taking bookings and stuffing it all up but I am getting better all the time so call Olivia instead!!
Thanks to everyone for giving us a go and please tell everyone about us as we are here for good and we pride ourselves on how we look after you and also our fish handling practices by release weighting ALL of our undersize fish back to the bottom and fishing for the future. We are also trying to get some other operators out there to do the same as it is a must to fish for the future and not for just the numbers. Those other companies know who you are so just do it or else feel the heat!!!! My bristles are up and I will stand for your un professionalism no longer. Be assured that Saltwater Charters has the strictest policy to care for you and your fish and your day on the water is not just about killing fish but giving you the total experience of a day on our clean, well presented boat with great food and fantastic crew.
Happy Fishing till next month.

February news:

Hi to Everyone as our AA team gear up for another busy month ahead of us! February has so far been gracing us with outstanding weather as Perth heads for a late summer. The fishing has been great in the last couple of weeks with Anthony and Andy putting a big smile on a lot of faces with some excellent catches of Dhufish, Pink Snapper and Baldchin Groper. The first Saturday there were 7 Dhufish caught in one day! So make the most of Anthony ’s secret spots while the fish are running hot. Sambo’s are still around but the sharks are getting their fair share also making things difficult. Some fine Pinkies up to 7 kilo are living right under them too so you still get a feed to take home. Unfortunately just about all of the weekends are booked out till the end of March but there are a couple left so call me to get your spot.

The Abrolhos Island season is drawing near and we already have some trips filled so please call me to discuss your needs. We also take individual bookings so you don’t have to find 9 other people to go with. With the proposed cuts coming in soon I would say that this year will be the last chance to bring home 20 kilo of fish, so stock up! Not that this is what we are about. There is too much other stuff to do like surfing and diving and catch and release is still a great approach to helping the cause of fishing for the future.

Thanks for the overwhelming support to everyone who has come out with us and the best form of advertising is word of mouth and our success is testament to the fact that we actually give you what we promise! See you out there for the ultimate day on the water.

March news:

Hi Everyone to another great month of weather ahead of us to spend out on the water catching a fish of a lifetime!
March is looking the goods in all departments with some light winds and warm days to come.
The fishing has been really good lately with some cracker Dhufish to 18 kilo along with some of the biggest Queenies I've seen being landed from the deeper waters. Breaksea cod, King George Whiting and Pink Snapper making up the rest of the bag.
It's all hands on deck getting ready for the Abrolhos Islands in April to July but I'm trying to get another boat to take the Interceptor's place so we will keep you updated so hopefully we can still look after you while we're away.
We are so looking forward to getting up there amongst the action and there is still a couple of spots for a week long trip starting the 4th April to the 10th and after that from mid May till July there are heaps of spare days so give me a call to secure your trip of a lifetime!
Happy fishing and hoping to see you out there with the best charter company in Perth,

April News:

Hi Everyone! Aprils newsletter is all about the Abrolhos as this is where we are now and we have just completed our first trip up taking the boat North and then spending 3 days fishing our hearts out.
Left town with some nice weather and steamed up towards Jurien Bay for our first drop. Staight into some great pinkies with non stop action for a fast few hours fishing. Then fished our way up to Pelsart Group. Next day saw some huge Baldies [which sadly went back!!!] big pinkies and a couple of the biggest Spangled Emperor I have ever seen. I caught one and it went 87 cm and at least 8 kilo. The third day west of Easter Group hiding from a strong Easterly saw some nice dhufish landed with one at 15 kilo and also heaps of baldies thrown back [at least 40].
Back into Geraldton at 12 am to sort the catch and clean up.
To sum it up the fishing is really good at the moment so call me to get you out there to this truly amazing chain of Islands.
Till next month Happy Fishing and Ill put an update of next weeks trip on then.

May News:

Happy fishing to you all!Hi to all for the merry month of May all the way from the Abrolhos Islands. This month so far has been filled up doing a dive contract for the servicing the crayfishermens moorings all through the Islands . This has given us a great chance to get to know the locals and to find all the good spots to stay for the night time between fishing. I spent a week at North Island absolutely blown away by how much fish and crays are up there in the shallow water and the coral is on par with Exmouth which just looks like you are swimming in an aquarium. We caught 6 big Dhufish from our 12 foot tinnie which we will have for the rest of the season in 10 meters of water and that was in just an hour of fishing. Also found some good spots to fish if the weather comes up. Hand feeding schools of skippy, sambos and sand snapper off the mooring. You get the picture. I am absolutely in love with these Islands and really is a lifetime dream to spend 4 months a year up here. You simply will not have a better time anywhere else of catch as many fish!
The only down side is this ridiculess law Minister Ford has put in about the Baldies and not being allowed to keep any. Every person I have had on board shakes their heads in dismay as you know that the fish will certainly die when released. There have never been so many either. At least 65 % of all fish caught were Baldies , from 5 meters to 70 mtrs , from Jurien Bay to North Island. Just go for a dive inside the reef to see how many there are. Even bringing a big fish up in 5 meters slowly can't save them from expelling their stomachs and then chewing them off with their big teeth. If we had of been allowed to keep even the big ones we would have had to stop fishing on the 4 th day instead of the 7 th as quota reached. Three days of extra fishing instead of snokelling, Macky fishing and sight seeing and killing needless fish. Don't even get me started on what will happen to the charter industry if this 4 month ban goes ahead over the peak period for our livelyhood. I am all for halving the daily catch per person as I think 2 good fish are all that is needed for a feed for your family. Can you imagine how many other related industries this will also affect , from tackle shops to hotels and everything between. Let's just hope the minister for fisheries can see the light and come up with a different approach to saving the fish stocks, based on fact and not a beauracrats heresay who depends on a government grant to prove his worth...
Back to the Abrolhos and we still have some dates avaliable for individuals and whole boat bookings and all I can say is come out and fall in love with these beautiful Islands which are a fishermens heaven and playground. See you out there. Regards Craig

Regards,

Craig and Olivia Warne.
